It’s that time of year again, when poppies are worn to commemorate the day that armistice was signed between the allied countries and Germany, signifying the end of World War One. Annually celebrated on 11th November, Armistice day and the following Remembrance Sunday have since come to symbolise the time when we remember those who lost their lives fighting for their country.  

Southend-on-Sea

What: To commemorate these events, Southend-on-Sea annual Remembrance Day takes place at 11am Sunday 10th November at the Cenotaph on Clifftown Parades. People wishing to pay their repects are invited to attend the Remembrance Day Service to honour and those who laid down their lives in the World Wars. At 11am, the service will begin by playing the Last Post and the exhortation

This will begin the traditional two minutes’ silence. The end of the silence will be signalled by the Reveille followed by the Kohima epitaph, the service will continue with the hymn: ‘I vow to thee my country.’ During which a poppy wreath will be laid on the Cenotaph on behalf of Southend residents and the members and officers of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

Serving Veteran Cadets , Blue Light services  and youth organisations will march to the from Priitlewell Square to the Cenotaph at 1040

On the return parade the Mayor will take the salute

Leigh on Sea

A service of Rememberance takes place in St Clements Church at 3pm

Following the service at around 4pm a parade of Serving Veteran Cadets , Blue Light services  and youth organisations will march from the church to the community centre
